Research Project Grants
AIFA Research Grants
The Allergy and Immunology Foundation of Australasia (AIFA) was established by ASCIA in 2013 to support research. AIFA provides funding for medical research into allergy and other immune diseases in Australia and New Zealand. By September 2021 AIFA will have awarded a total of over $500,000 in grants for research projects. For more information go to www.allergyimmunology.org.au/projects
AIFA research grants are selected each year through a transparent and robust grant selection process. This process involves an independent, voluntary expert panel comprising leading immunology and allergy clinicians and scientists.
AIFA research grants encourage:
- Early career researchers who may not yet receive grants from the NHMRC or other organisations.
- Research requiring seed funding.
- Collaborations between researchers and institutions throughout Australia and New Zealand.
- Research projects that will translate to better treatment and care for patients with allergy and other immune diseases.
Tax deductible donations to AIFA can be made online at www.allergyimmunology.org.au/donate
ASCIA members and other health professionals are encouraged to donate honoraria to AIFA.

ASCIA Research Grants 2004-2008
From 2004 to 2008, ASCIA awarded a total of $558,600 in grants and endowments. Of these funds, a total of $325,600 was spent specifically on funding research, comprising $163,900 for allergy research and $161,700 for other immune disease research. The source of these grants, endowments and awards was the income from investing proceeds from ASCIA annual conferences, including the World Allergy Congress 2000, which was held in Sydney and hosted by ASCIA. These research grants were ceased after 2008 due to reduced income from investments. For infomation about these grants go to www.allergyimmunology.org.au/projects#s2
